Schools Shut Down

Big cities across the United States are announcing plans to close what they call “failed schools.” In New York City, the Department of Education plans to close 20 public schools by the fall. Activists there are planning rallies to stop the closings that they say are being made without consulting the community and without giving enough money to schools to pay for smaller classes and better services.
