Wildlife Protected, Not People

The British government wants to establish a Marine Protected Area in the Chagos Islands, located in the Indian Ocean. The area has many unique plants and animals and the world’s largest coral reef. The problem is that no one consulted the Chagossians who lived on the islands for 150 years until they were thrown out in the 1960s so the United States could build a military base. They are fighting to return home claiming that they are the best ones to help monitor and enforce a Marine Protected Area.
