How to Volunteer

Without volunteer illustrators, designers, editors, writers and distributors, IndyKids wouldn’t happen. Here are some ways you can help this unique project:
Come to a meeting or event:
If you are in New York City, attend one of our production meetings or events. Everyone is welcome. Click here for upcoming schedules.
Submit an article:
IndyKids accepts non-fiction articles from adults and kids on current-events news and features. To find out more about submitting an article, see our submission guidelines.
Interview kids:
Interview kids on issues they care about. Interviews should be brief, include the child’s first name, and include a photo. All photos of kids must be approved in writing from a parent or guardian.
Help Distribute the paper:
IndyKids distributes free copies of the paper at bookstores, cafes, churches, libraries and community events. If you know of a location that might want copies of IndyKids, please come by our office at 666 Broadway (at Bond) in Manhattan to pick up copies. For more information about where to get free copies, see our list of free distribution sites.
Help with design, layout and graphics:
IndyKids relies on the volunteer work of professional artists and graphic designers for all of our content. Let us know if you would like to contribute a piece of artwork, photographs or illustrations for our next issue.
Editing:
IndyKids uses the expertise of volunteer copy-editors and proofreaders. Let us know if you’d like to get involved in this process.
Fundraising:
In order to keep IndyKids free and ad-free, we hold regular fundraisers in the New York City area. Help plan events, find vendors, reach out to donors and promote our fundraising initiatives.
If you’d like to find out how to get involved with IndyKids, fill out the volunteer form below or email us directly at info@indykids.org.
