For the last six years, the Students Not Soldiers Coalition has lobbied New York City Schools to adopt formal rules for military recruitment in public schools. Now there is a new policy in New York City schools that says military recruiters are no longer allowed to use class time for recruitment.
Two high school students shared their thoughts with a news team from Children’s PressLine.
Hope Reichbach received many calls from military recruiters when she was a high school student. Hope, with more students and lawyers, challenged the military. Hope said, “I got involved… because I just wanted the military to leave me and other students alone.”
We are 4th grade students at PS 87 in Manhattan, New York City. In school we discussed how video games were being used by the military to get people to sign up for the military. To get more soldiers, the military has been using video games to trick people into thinking that war is fun.
